ESG (ESRS) & Sustainability

CSRD (Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive):
CSRD is a European regulation that requires companies to disclose detailed sustainability information. This directive ensures transparency in environmental, social, and governance (ESG) practices. For companies, it enhances accountability and helps attract responsible investors. Customers benefit from CSRD as it provides trustworthy insights into our sustainability efforts, enabling informed purchasing decisions. Since April 2025 Wallenborn Transports S.A. is no longer subject to CSRD.

ESRS (European Sustainability Reporting Standards):
ESRS sets the specific standards for sustainability reporting under the CSRD framework. It guides companies on what and how to report on ESG topics consistently. This helps companies streamline their sustainability disclosures, ensuring compliance and comparability. Customers gain clearer, standardised data about company impacts, fostering trust and promoting sustainable consumption.

VSME (Voluntary Reporting Standing for SMEs):
VSME stems from the market need to have a simple reporting tool to be used by SMEs to face growing sustainability data requests from business counterparties (i.e. banks, investors or larger companies for which non-listed SMEs are suppliers) in an efficient and proportionate manner as well as to facilitate their participation in the transition to a sustainable economy. Based on market acceptance, the VSME is expected to standardize the current multiple ESG data requests (which represent a significant cost of preparation for non-listed SMEs), by reducing the number of uncoordinated requests they receive. This is expected to support them in having better access to lenders, investors and clients.

EFRAG (European Financial Reporting Advisory Group):
EFRAG is responsible for developing sustainability reporting standards and advising the European Commission. Certification or endorsement from EFRAG signals rigorous alignment with evolving sustainability frameworks. Companies benefit through improved guidance and credibility, while customers and investors receive reliable, high-quality sustainability information.

INDR (Institut National pour le développment durable et la Responsabilité sociale des entreprises):

State of the art truck wash system

Wallenborn invested €250’000 in a new, state-of-the-art truck wash system, thereby underpinning our commitment to be ‘green and clean’. Wallenborn is highly respected for operating the cleanest trucks in Europe, with 100% of its trucks meeting the Euro 6 European Union emissions standards.

As well as being green and lean, Wallenborn’s trucks are always clean and shiny because we believe that our fleet’s appearance is a reflection on our commitment to quality. The Kärcher commercial vehicle washing systems are fully-automated, recycle all water and capture all chemicals.

Driver training programme

Wallenborn has a specific driver training program to educate on, and enhance fuel efficient driving, which is conducted by an external company. All drivers are required to complete this training, and are subsequently monitored and rated.

During the Covid pandemic, we established Wallenborn Academy to provide our drivers with remote access to training, work instructions and other resources.

Euro 6 fleet

We advocate for a pragmatic approach to sustainability and reject the notion of greenwashing. We’ve made substantial progress in minimising our carbon footprint. Through ongoing investments in our fleet, we proudly operate one of the most environmentally friendly truck fleets in Europe. All of our trucks meet the European Union’s strictest Euro 6 emissions standards, This commitment lowers our carbon footprint and cuts costs for our customers, as the cleanest trucks pay the lowest tolls. In 2024, we reduced the speed of our trucks from 91 km per hour to 85 km per hour, a decision informed by a thorough risk-reward analysis to achieve an optimal balance, providing a significant decrease in carbon dioxide emissions and cost savings
without adversely affecting transit times.

Solar energy

In 2012, Wallenborn created the largest solar panel equipped warehouse in Luxembourg at that time, Luxembourg’s first “megawatt on a roof” solar installation. The solar power plant is installed on the roofs of our high security logistics warehouse at our Luxembourg headquarters, a clean energy solution that makes a big contribution to our environment with a production capacity of 1’000 MWh per year.
